Earlier this year Adam Dorfman, SVP of Product here at SIM Partners, wrote a column on entities and how they are being used by Google. What is an entity? An entity according to Google is: [a] thing or concept that is singular, unique, well-defined and distinguishable. For example, an entity may be a person, place, item, idea, abstract concept, concrete element, other suitable thing, or any combination thereof.
The increase of entities means that hospitals and healthcare practices must do more than optimize physician and facility pages if they want to be found in search. Optimizing for every entity associated with their healthcare system or private practice is now required. Additionally healthcare systems need to think beyond optimizing a single location for search, such as their Google My Business page. To appear in map pack rankings, these healthcare facilities need to be found on all the places that Google associates with their practice.
