SIM Partners is looking forward to attending the HIMSS17 conference in Orlando next week.  I have attended past HIMSS shows and always find some key takeaways each year.  As a healthcare technology professional, there’s no better place to collaborate, network, and learn than the annual HIMSS conference.

Considering the venue, I’m reminded of a common question that families might hear from their children on a long road trip to the Orlando theme parks.

“Are we there yet?”

Patient engagement and experience will again be a major focus for healthcare in 2017.  Whether a system is looking to drive traffic to their patient portal, increase online scheduling, or provide transparency, the way you engage with patients will play a major role.

Our Velocity Health solution engages patients while creating findability for the health system and its providers. The needs for the on-demand, consumer driven patient have forced a considerable change in how we look at patient engagement.  A digital engagement strategy that fulfills the need to “find what I want, where I want, and when I want it” is something the retail world embraced some time ago.

As I discuss goals and strategies at the HIMSS17 conference with other attendees next week,  I hope to gain insight and provide guidance for how patient behavior has changed healthcare.

The first question I’ll ask is if their patients are wondering…

“Are we there yet?”
